Like I said: graduate school. It eats me up and spits me out pitilessly. Most of my fannish efforts and involvement spring from the desire to avoid anything at all related to schoolwork, term papers, comprehensive exams, syllabi, or reading lists. If you really want to know, I'm getting a master's degree in literature from a midsize (~4800 students), religious, largely conservative Texas university. Which is really much more enjoyable than it sounds, except for the weather.
I like to write. At the risk of sounding like I'm in middle school, I want to be a writer when I grow up. I lack the dedication and determination to practice constantly, though. So my writings are mediocre on the whole: good enough to get by and be recognized as good, but not great. I suspect I will have to work harder. In the future, of course.
I love young adult literature. I think everyone should read all of John Green's novels, because they are amazing (Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines, Paper Towns). I've lingered and lurked around the Harry Potter fandom for more than nine years. I have a thing for dystopia, which I forgot until I read Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games, which is magnificent. Zombies and the post-apocalypse, too; you should read The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan. As you can see, I measure the eras of my life in books.
I'm a registered Democrat (not that it really works that way in Texas, but whatever). I campaigned for Obama (and got paid for it, baby). I like Pad Thai, tea in the morning, staying up past my bedtime, procrastinating, making lists (sometimes the same list over and over), indie folk music, amateur philosophy, heterodoxy, committing myself to large projects and falling through, drawing (not that you'll ever see any of that, lordy), and giving unsolicited advice.
Depending on my mood/spontaneity/level of cynicism/thoughts about humanity's future, I'm sometimes an INFJ, sometimes an INTJ. Decide for yourself what that means. What it really means: I take personality tests compulsively. Would you like to know what my Enneagram is? I'm a four-wing-five. I like to be able to classify other people in the same way (see above, re: list-making).

01 Do you remember your first ever thing you were fannish about as a wee one?
Yep. That would be Sailor Moon - I saw the tapes at Blockbuster one day in fourth grade, and it was all over. I also discovered it on Cartoon Network eventually. Boy, did I ever love that show. Animorphs was pretty early too, around the same time. When I was eleven, I created an Animorphs fansite. Not a joke. Although I never found out about fanfiction for those books. Strange.
02 What fandom was your first (fan fic) reading fandom?
Either it was SM, as above (I discovered the internet very early in life), or possibly it was Hansen RPF (not that I knew what RPF was, or that it was called that, back then). My neighbor Andi, who lived around the block from me, introduced me to Hansen RPF smut at the tender age of eleven. Yeah, I'm fucked up. It is a little weird though, that my first fic love was RPF, and now I'm totally squicked by it (with a few choice exceptions). It's like the opposite of fandom's usual desensitization.
03 Are you very monofannish or a fickle fannish butterfly?
I'm really fickle, about everything. I jump from TV series to TV series (TV is my crack) pretty often, spend a few months in a fandom, and then usually move on. Often my fannish love will return later, in a cycle. After two years of basically forgetting about Veronica Mars, I recently re-discovered my great love for it, for example.
04 Did you ever feel really fannish and obsessed about a tv show/movie/book, etc. but without having the desire to write/read fan fic?
I feel that way about many books I read. I'm not into classical literature fandom, like Jane Austen fic, either. Most of the crime procedurals I watch (the CSIs, NCIS, L&O, Bones, Psych, Monk) I tend to shy away from, fandom-wise, even though I enjoy watching them.
05 Did you ever have a fandom that was totally ruined for you by canon and/or fandom politics?
Not really. I tend to stay away from fandom drama, or it completely misses me. I was around for the Cassandra Claire debacle, etc, and all those people who would get featured onfandom_wank for wanking in HP fandom - but I was really clueless. I tend to be unaware of the drama-llama parading around in real life as well, and when it does rear its head, I have no idea how to handle it. I'm a straightforward person at heart, and drama is usually dealt with quickly. As for ruination by canon, I did abandon LOST for a while, because late-S2 and S3 were so terrible. But then it started getting better, so I returned. The ending of the U.S. Life on Mars really killed the show for me, too, which was disappointing - it was an amazing show, on the whole.
06 Where were you fannishly in 2003?
Harry Potter. Some anime at the time - I think probably Ranma 1/2, Cowboy Bebop, and Trigun were most prominent.
07 Where were you fannishly in 2005?
Harry Potter. 2001 to 2005 were my high school years, and in high school, it was all Harry Potter, all the time. I didn't watch much TV at that time, either - my one true love wouldn't appear until late 2005 or so, when I began watching Lost ... and then House ...
