*
1. Motion
Wilson's not really sure how this got started, what put them on this track; but something is pushing them - inexorably, unstoppably, to what he expects will be a heart-wrenching conclusion for one of them [he's not sure who].
2. Cool
As his fingers flinch involuntarily away from her face, he thinks it's not the first time she's surprised him.
3. Young
Sometimes her size, her demeanor, fools him into thinking she's a child; but Cameron wishes he could see the sorrow that she feels heavily behind her eyes.
4. Last
Why would she want him, he wonders, miserably, when all he does is leave ruin in his wake?
5. Wrong
"Nope, she's clean - it was a good idea, though," Wilson says casually, leaning over her shoulder to look at the report, but suddenly all she can think about is the sensation of his warm breath on her neck.
6. Gentle
His hands are firm and warm on her neck and shoulders; I should be careful, Allison thinks hazily, but she doesn't want to be careful - not at all.
7. One
It all begins with a lingering glance, held a moment too long.
8. Thousand
They ignore each other as they fill out stacks of clinic charts, listening to the endless scrape of their blue pens, trying to make their mark on eternity, pretending they matter.
9. King
"Checkmate," House says in a bored voice, but he leans forward and gives Cameron a meaningful look, before he clears the remaining players off the board; she can only think, ohgod he knows, watching, frozen.
10. Learn
He's afraid of the day she doesn't need him any more.
11. Blur
It won't be long, she fears, until her edges will soften in his vision, until his feelings for her will fade and dim, until he doesn't care at all, until she is reduced to a pale smudge in his memory.
12. Wait
A tapping foot reminds Cameron that he has a job to do, and she gets up from her chair with embarrassment.
13. Change
I'm a fool, Allison thinks helplessly; maybe she is a wide-eyed idealist after all, always believing that she can be the catalyst for change, spurring people toward the reform always on the horizon, and sooner or later, she fears, the failures piled on failures will embitter her.
14. Command
It's so hard to say no.
15. Hold
Wilson can see her fingers trembling slightly around her Styrofoam cup, coffee threatening the newly replaced carpet; her uncertainty compels him to stroke her hair, just over the cup of her ear.
16. Need
House has dubbed them both emotional vampires; but they believe in themselves to fill each others' cracks.
17. Vision
His eyes are so intense, so focused, as he listens to her; she can't help but feel flattered.
18. Attention
He remembers meeting her for the first time - late, flustered, and adorable - and the way he felt compelled to slip his left hand into the pocket of his lab coat whenever they talked.
19. Soul
At three in the morning, she confesses, without meeting his eyes, that she likes to listen to the Brooklyn Tabernacle choir sometimes [can you say hallelujah?].
20. Picture
Wilson's fingers slide over the photograph in her scrapbook; he sees the man he assumes is Joe and feels both jealous and a little triumphant.
21. Fool
"We left a joker in the deck by accident," Wilson chuckles, and Cameron glances at House out of the corner of her eye, and drops her gaze.
22. Mad
This isn't what was supposed to happen, thought Cameron, but denial is insanity [she knew this was coming, oh yes they both did].
23. Child
He feels like he's in middle school again, Wilson realizes grumpily: nervous, readjusting his suit unnecessarily, poring over the memory of every overture and conversation, but he knows this is part of the addiction to: the attraction, the desire to please, the frantic energy pushing him along.
24. Now
Wilson glances at her through the window and half-smiles; she still has three hours left on her shift, but her mouth goes dry even as Foreman suggests, "Neurological disorder?".
25. Shadow
"How long has it been since you've slept?" he asks with his trademark concern, noticing the purple lurking under her eyes, and she doesn't have the heart to tell him how House is punishing her for their relationship.
26. Goodbye
"It's over with Julie," he insists; but sometimes Cameron sees him fingering the base of his ring finger.
27. Hide
Her skin is so fair, so translucent that he can almost see the blue veins running underneath [so easily broken], and he longs to shield her, to hide her away where no one can touch her but him.
28. Fortune
She draws the short straw, and she stays late that night; "I'll brew some coffee," Wilson says gently, "I'm staying for a while to do some paperwork, we can keep each other company."
29. Safe
She knows it's a terrible cliché, but something feels good about the way he holds her after they make love.
30. Ghost
Cameron can still hear her mother's voice, saying, When you have sex with someone, you bring all your other partners with you; looking over at Wilson, she wonders, uncharitably, how many guests are in her bed tonight.
31. Book
"You're not very hard to read, you know," he tells her one day, smiling, and Cameron feels vaguely disappointed.
32. Eye
Wilson knows she's watching him; he meets her gaze, his gestures even and measured as he takes off his tie and unbuckles his belt, his careful hands making promises that she takes in eagerly.
33. Never
"I can't believe you've never watched clouds!" she tells him, delighted, grabbing his hand and dragging him outside to the balcony of her apartment.
34. Sing
"Goldfrapp? Really?" he asks, unable to hold back a smirk, holding up the album cover for her to see; she blushes, and says, "Only in the shower."
35. Sudden
This is too fast, Cameron thinks, too fast for anyone's good; the dizzying onslaught of attraction and desire and actiondesperationclimaxthere left her feeling weary and disoriented.
36. Stop
Wilson pauses to watch her smooth flowery lotion onto her pale palms, carefully and slowly, surprised at the unexpected sensuality of the gesture.
37. Time
His voice, low: You'd be surprised what you can live with, and she feels lightheaded, her mind dancing over the possibilities [whatifs, whatmighthavebeens] that can only torture her now.
38. Wash
She looks like a faded watercolor to Wilson sometimes, pale and diluted; part of his game is to see if he can make the color return to her cheeks, if he can make her solid again.
39. Torn
As Cameron is tugging her nylons back over her feet, the hose catches on a toenail and rips and she groans; Wilson represses a smile as he expertly knots his tie.
40. History
She can't help but wonder about him, about all the women he's loved, and thinks maybe this is not the best idea she's ever had.
41. Power
He's warm and friendly from the exterior, but Allison sees something dark behind his eyes, some dangerous, seductive quality, and she is helpless to deny it.
42. Bother
He doesn't want House to know about them - not yet, he says, but Allison hears the unspoken not ever behind it; she feels both relieved and irritated, and she wonders if she ever feels the right way about anything.
43. God
He doesn't understand how she can't believe in God, but still chooses to see the best in people, to hope for better, to have another kind of faith.
44. Wall
Her room is carefully neutral: all tans and greys and light greens, designed to put the soul at ease, but when she's waiting for him to arrive, she can't stop moving: tapping her feet, pacing, nervous, restless.
45. Naked
Something has always bothered her about nudity with the light on; but she takes in the way he stares at her, soaking her in, and she leans back and closes her eyes.
46. Drive
They're practically living together by now, but they always make sure to take separate cars to work, careful to neatly dust each other off their public lives.
47. Harm
The thought crosses his mind that eventually he's going to hurt her, but when he looks down and sees her snoring lightly on his shoulder, he knows [a weary knowledge] he can't help himself.
48. Precious
Wilson doesn't like to think about where this is headed, how it will end; he prefers to take it moment by moment, like now: like the way she looks waking up in his bed for the first time.
49. Hunger
"Hungry?" Allison asks, pushing over her tray, but Wilson says, "Not for cheese fries," and leans over to kiss her.
50. Believe
Maybe, Wilson thinks, maybe he could find a way not to fuck things up this time.

"Ghost" was absolutely brilliant, in a strange, slightly disturbing, sort of way.
